Press Release Body: It has been confirmed that the new Saatchi Gallery, which will
be located within the Duke of York HQ Building, on the Kings Road, Close to Sloane
Square in Chelsea, will be opening its doors for the first time on October 9th,
2008.
Previously the Saatchi collection has been housed in the old GLC Building on
London’s South bank, a venue that was often criticized, and one that Charles Saatchi
himself has expressed displeasure with. It is hoped that a move to an elegant,
modern and charismatic new building will enable the collection to be exhibited more
successfully.
The Duke of York HQ contains over 70,000 square feet of floor space, and has room
for a book shop, an educational centre and a café.

Renovation has been extensive, in an effort to create a perfect home for this
impressive collection of contemporary art. Modern décor and high ceilings are the
order of the day post-renovation, slick and modern.

In an interesting move, Charles Saatchi has decided to make the venue available for
private function hire. A brief scan of the information made available on the Saatchi
gallery website would seem to indicate that it would be ideal for prestigious, high
profile events such as award ceremonies, new product launches and seminars. If we
further consider that the building itself, and the exhibits within it, create an
impressive environment, then it becomes clear that social functions such as birthday
parties and Christmas parties would also benefit from hiring this incredible venue.

The Duke of York HQ is capable of housing 1,500 people, although organizers of
smaller events such as board meetings, training workshops and team building events
are able to hire just a single room or group of rooms. The Gallery management is
available to advise potential organizers as to the best sections of the new Gallery
that would suit their requirements.

The Gallery will be changing exhibits several times throughout the year, meaning
that returning events would have the benefit of a familiar venue, which will have
changed subtly since the last booking, making this a dynamic function venue, that is
unlikely to be the same twice. The Saatchi collection is internationally famed as
one of the greatest collections of contemporary art in the world, allowing event
organizers to expose their guests to the subtle influences of an ever changing
backdrop, featuring some of the most fascinating pieces of art to be exhibited in
the City of London.

October 9th is set to be a date in every London art lover’s diary, as the new
Saatchi Gallery opens its doors not only to exhibit art, but to supply a world class
event venue and function centre. It remains to be seen whether this particular mix
of art and commerce will sit happily beside each other, with no conflict of
interest, one can only hope that the artistic value of the new Gallery is not
diluted by this double identity.
